ABI Journey
The idea for the Africa Biomedical Institute (ABI) emerged in 2015 among African scientists committed to translating research into practical health solutions. Now formally registered, ABI draws on expertise in infectious diseases, immunology, genomics, and related fields to advance research, diagnostics, and scientific capacity building.
Guided by its African Context-Based Model for Implementation (AfCMI), ABI adapts innovations to local priorities and health systems. As it prepares to expand across East and West Africa, ABI aims to bring the benefits of African-led science to communities.

Scientific and Technical Capacity Building
We provide advanced training and mentorship in genomics, bioinformatics, and immunology, equipping scientists and healthcare professionals with expertise in genomic data generation, computational analysis, and immune profiling.
Laboratory Diagnostics
With our partners, we offer high-quality laboratory testing and analysis services with state-of-the-art equipment and expert scientists ensuring accurate and reliable results.
Research and Development
With our partners, we investigate disease mechanisms, advance diagnostics and therapeutics, and use AI and statistical methods to analyse health data. We adapt new technologies to local needs, turn discoveries into practical solutions, and support researchers in designing rigorous studies.
Science Communication
We train junior and senior scientists and academics in the art of scientific communication, grant writing, and project management. Crucially, we employ advanced statistical methods, AI, and machine learning tools to analyze your data and effectively communicate the key insights.

Join ABI as a Scientific Fellow
The Africa Biomedical Institute (ABI) invites expressions of interest from scientists in genomics, bioinformatics, immunology, bioengineering, data science, programming, and statistics. Applicants from all countries with a Master’s degree, PhD, or postdoctoral experience are welcome.
We especially encourage scientists who want to share their expertise, contribute to meaningful research, and give back to communities. These fellowships are unpaid. ABI welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and is committed to equal opportunity.
